Where did it all begin?

Evidence exists from over five thousand years ago, which shows that asanas and meditation were practiced in the Indus Valley. There are statues of Lord Shiva in meditative asanas, hence Shiva is considered the founder of yoga.

Fast forward two and a half thousand years via the Vedas and the Bhagavad Gita and the sage Patanjali coordinated the organisation of the previously orally transmitted teachings of the Ancients. He wrote the Veda Sutras - the basis of a guidebook for being human and its associated challenges. The Yoga Sutras give us a plan for gaining control over thoughts and emotions as well as guiding us through personal spiritual growth. Up until fairly recently, yoga was solely taught and practised by males who used their practice to unite thought, breath and movement,
