To 'Namaste' or not to 'Namaste'?

Namaste, correctly pronounced 'nuh-muh-stay' means literally, 'I bow to you.' It is a respectful sign and may or may not be returned by the people in the space, who have come to practice. In many yoga classes, it may come at the end of the sequence of asanas and signal the end. However, it is more of a greeting and may be twinned with Anjali Mudra (the holding of the hands in prayer at the heart centre). At the beginning of a yoga sequence, it can be used by the teacher to welcome fellow yogis to the shared space. At the end of the session, its purpose is to thank the yogis for joining the practice and to wish them continued peace. That is why I like and use Namaste.
